Pig Noises Upset Brookside Viewers

A sex video soundtrack in an episode of Channel 4’s Brookside, which included noises from a pig and a woman, has provoked viewers to complain to the ITC on the grounds that it was unsuitable for transmission.

Although characters Max and Susannah Farnham found the video funny, the ITC upheld the complaints saying that the sequence was in poor taste for broadcast in family viewing time. C4 had already noted a number of viewers had been unhappy with the episode and broadcast an apology before the next instalment and edited out the noises from the omnibus edition.

…C4 also caused a rumpus with its trailer for the Russia v Italy World Cup play-off match, which included an Italian soccer fan’s face being pushed into a plate of pasta. The ITC did not uphold these complaints, saying that the trailer was harmless and unlikely to cause significant offence.
