Planet Rock Signs Shock Rocker Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper Alice Cooper will join GCap Media’s award-winning Planet Rock as its new breakfast DJ.

The eyeliner clad, theatrical shock rocker will start his show at the beginning of July, airing 6-9am weekdays with a ‘best of” scheduled for between 10am and 1pm on Sundays.

The leather wearing music veteran will present the show from Phoenix, Arizona in the States. “I get to play all the stuff that doesn’t get played elsewhere. Who’d want to have breakfast with Alice Cooper; can you imagine that?” he said.

Cooper’s signing adds to the presenting pedigree of the UK’s classic rock station, which currently has DJs Rick Wakeman, Yes keyboardist, and Black Sabbath’s guitarist, Tony Iommi.

GCap’s “indie” station Xfm recently hired rock photography legend, Mick Rock, to present a series of Saturday afternoon shows live from New York, to commence at the beginning of July. The show will be the first on the station to be available as an enhanced podcast, allowing listeners to download exclusive Rock images to their MP3 players.

Planet Rock recently won Gold Digital Terrestrial Station of the Year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards. Listeners to the station were up 42% with a record 461,000 listeners across the UK in the latest RAJAR results.
