Playstation Magazine Reveals 100th Issue

This month sees the release of the 100th issue of Official UK PlayStation Magazine (OPM). Published by Future Publishing, the best-selling magazine is the only title still dedicated to the original Sony PlayStation. Featuring news, reviews and previews of all the latest games, OPM launched in November 1995 as the only official magazine dedicated to PlayStation. The success of Official UK PlayStation Magazine is down to its unique offering of a playable demo disc. The only magazine to allow readers to try PlayStation games before they buy, this innovative approach lead to the magazine reaching a highest ABC of 385,764 in Jan-Jun 1999. This approach has also since spawned the top-selling Official PlayStation 2 Magazine, also from Future Publishing and the only magazine with a playable PS2 demo disc. Issue 100 of Official UK PlayStation Magazine is a bumper celebration of the eight successful years of the most important PlayStation magazine in the industry. As well as a definitive list of the top 20 PlayStation games of all time, there will be a look at the past, present, and future of PlayStation, with articles showing early prototypes for PlayStation right through to a speculative feature on Sony’s recently unveiled portable PlayStation, the PSP (due 2004). The issue will also feature an exclusive commissioned illustration of PlayStation superstar Lara Croft on the cover, specially rendered by Tomb Raider creators Core Design to mark OPM’s anniversary. Pictured cracking a celebratory bottle of bubbly, Lara Croft was chosen as the star of OPM #100 for her close association with the runaway success of PlayStation and to celebrate her role as the magazine’s most frequent and popular cover star. Lara first appeared on OPM’s cover way back in issue 13 (Dec 1996) and issue 100 will mark her seventh appearance in total. As always, Official UK PlayStation Magazine will come with a playable demo disc. This celebratory edition is no exception, featuring ten of the best playable demos from the magazine’s history. Games featured include the likes of Gran Turismo, ISS Pro Evolution Soccer 2, Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken 2.
