Media and technology journalist Peter Kafka is making a comeback with his new podcast, “Channels,” launching under the Vox Media podcast network. This marks a revival of his popular “Recode Media” podcast, which had a significant following within the industry.
Kafka, who currently serves as a chief correspondent at Business Insider, will continue to write for the publication while also partnering with Vox Media for the production, distribution, and sales of “Channels.” Notably, he has retained ownership of the podcast, granting him greater flexibility and control over its content and operations.
The decision to partner with Vox Media was influenced by the company’s established infrastructure and expertise in podcasting. As Kafka explained to Axios, “Vox Media has figured out various ways to monetize, distribute, and promote podcasts.”
Fans of “Recode Media” will likely enjoy the familiar format of “Channels,” featuring in-depth interviews with top executives in the media and tech industries. Kafka will continue to explore the intersection of technology and media, highlighting both success stories and lessons learned.
The launch of “Channels” comes at a time when Vox Media has become a popular destination for journalists seeking to build their podcast brands independently. Other notable figures who have joined the network include Taylor Lorenz from The Washington Post and Kara Swisher from The New York Times.
Kafka’s first episode of “Channels” will be available on September 11th, featuring an interview with David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker. Interestingly, Remnick was also Kafka’s first interviewee when he launched “Recode Media” in 2016.
