Police Sponsorship Available
New government guidelines, expected to be implemented through the Criminal Justice Bill, will allow commercial sponsorship of the police, according to a story in The Guardian. The new guidelines have been prompted by Thresher, who gave Avon and Somerset police a £10,000 van. The gift was accepted, although the logo on the side had to be shrunk after protests from anti-drink drive campaigners.
The new guidelines will allow a police authority to accept gifts of money, loans or property, provided they enable police to “deliver something extra”. In return the sponsor may expect publicity. The Criminal Justice Bill is to have its final reading in October.
