Portsmouth & Sunderland Paper Results

Portsmouth and Sunderland (P&SN) newspaper publishers and printing and convenience store retailing has announced pre tax profits of £8.3m. A year on year comparison shows an increase of 29%, from £7.3m.

P&SN’s publishing revenue rose by 6% to £52.7m. Advertising revenue increased by 5% to £37.4m. The increase was greater in the first half year (+7%) than in the second half (+3.5%). The only advertising catagory to show strong and consistant growth throughout this year was recruitment, with volume 34% higher than the previous year (but still 50% below the level of 1989/90).

Newspaper sales revenue grew by 3% to £12.3m. The paid for weeklies maintained or increased circulation. The News, Portsmouth and Hartlepool Mail were within 1% of the previous year, Shields Gazette -1.5% and the Sunderland Echo-3%.
