PPA Chairman Calls For Quality Of Readership Questions

John Mathews, chairman of the Periodical Publisher’s Association has been speaking today at the PPA CEO Conference, Planning for New Horizons. He called for magazine publishers to press their case more strongly to both ABC and NRS, where he believes magazines are trading at a disadvantage to national newspapers. He said, “National newspapers have to be encouraged to match the high audit standards now accepted by magazines and magazines must be allowed quality of readership questions to highlight their strengths.” Matthews also mentioned the key role magazines will play in the development of new media, but expressed concern over the protection of intellectual property. He also said, “We regard it as quite ridiculous that a magazine can be produced from a tv programme but the reverse is not permitted.”
