Premier League To Clear The ‘Clutter’ Of Advertisers

The FA Premier League has outlined plans to attract five major sponsors to all football matches in an attempt to reduce the ‘clutter’ of sponsors and brands currently seen on broadcast matches and on stadium perimeter boards.
The advertisers will pay £2 million each to secure their brands on perimeter boards in the same position each week in a deal which will run for three years. Any other advertisers will effectively be prevented from appearing on Premiership games. The deal will also provide participant advertisers with the opportunity to be associated with overseas broadcasts of League games.
The League’s commercial director Stephen Pearson says that talks are currently underway with a number of major advertisers – “the usual suspects”, he says. He is hoping that the deals will be closed before the beginning of the new season in August.
In addition to the £10 million pounds the League will gain from this advertising deal, it is planning to rake in revenue from the launch of an official Premier League magazine. Preparations for this are underway and it is hoped that the magazine will also be ready for launch in time for the next season.
