Press Body Announces Privacy Plans

The Press Complaints Commission will be made up of non-press members and a complaints hot-line may be set up for readers if the newspaper industry takes on the self-regulation guidelines issued by the Press Standards Board of Finance (PRESSBOF) yesterday.
The body, which finances the Press Complaints Commission, stated that it was easier for newspapers to stick to the rules of a code rather than live constantly under the threat of fines, as has been suggested by the Government. Other suggested changes included restricting long-range photography and re-defining ‘public interest’ giving it one definition instead of the several currently used in the code.
