Price Control Imposed On NTL
The Office of Telecommunications (OFTEL ) has announced new controls on the prices charged by National Transcommunications Limited (NTL) for the broadcast transmission services to the ITV companies, Channel 4 and S4C.
Don Cruickshank, managing director of OFTEL said: “In line with OFTEL’s goal of achieving the best deal for the customer, the price control will require NTL to maintain its efforts to improve efficiency. At the same time I have taken into account the considerable importance NTL’s customers attach to maintaining the quality and reliability of the service.”
NTL’s total annual charge to the television companies will be reduced by £4 million to £53.4 million. NTL are also required to reduce its prices by four per cent each year until 2002.
A spokesperson from NTL said: “The company will not issue any formal complaint and are pleased, to an extent, that our success is recognised.”
