Princess Dianorama Attracts 23.2 Million Viewers

Last night’s showing of the Princess Diana interview attracted over 23 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures. At its peak, at 22:15, the interview gained a 43.5 TVR, or 23.2 million individuals.

The programme, which started at 9:40pm, on BBC1, attracted a share of 64.3% of individuals at its start, climbing to 82.9% at its peak. ITV, which was showing Cracker from 9pm to 10pm managed a 22 TVR at the beginning of Cracker; a 45.3% share of audience, but this fell to 28% for the last quarter hour of Cracker, and fell to 7.2% for the interview’s peak at 22:15pm. Just over 1 million individuals turned over from ITV to the BBC in the minute before the interview started.

Diana’s interview had a higher female audience, with 87.1% share of female viewers at its peak, compared with a 78.6% share of male viewers. Around the country, the most avid watchers of the interview were those in the North of Scotland, with a 47.9 TVR. The lowest TVR in terms of region was in the Midlands, at 36.7.

The high of 23.2 million puts the programme well in the UK all time Top 10 for single showing of individual programmes. The Top Three were as follows:
