Profits Jump 15% At UNM

United News & Media today announced interim pre-tax profits of £174m, up 15% on last year. This figure is before Channel 5 and exceptions are taken into account. Turnover was up 9% to £1.084 billion.

In its broadcasting and entertainment division, Anglia and Meridian’s combined NAR share was up from 18.1% to 18.5%, while TSMS was singled out for an “excellent performance.”

United News & Media also announced that Marshall Freeman, President of Miller Freeman, and Sir Michael Lickiss, non-executive director, will be retiring from its Board with effect from September 30, 1997. Freeman is relinquishing responsibility for Miller Freeman Worldwide following the appointment of Tony Tillin as Chief Executive Officer.
