Prudential And HSBC Signings Mean Telewest Top 150 In Virtual Shopping Mall
Telewest has topped its target for signing up content partners for its virtual shopping platform by attracting 23 new names to take its total to over 150. The service, which was launched just under a year ago (see Telewest Builds Interactive Service To Rival Open), has now overtaken rivals such as Open when it comes to the number of content providers, has over 225,000 customers and is available on around 90% of Telewest networks.
The new signings include high street financial names HSBC and Prudential. Services available to customers in what Telewest calls its ‘virtual mall’ include motoring, money, games and learning, holidays, travel, entertainment, sports, news and directories. Chris Townsend, Telewest’s director of e-commerce and interactive services expressed his confidence that the service will “allow digital consumers to shop from their armchairs this Christmas.”
Telewest has also just announced that three more City Councils are to provide local information and news for residents via its interactive TV platform. Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle City Councils will join Knowsley Metropolitan Borough, which signed up earlier in the year (see Telewest Adds New Brands To Active Digital Service).
