Public Do Not Want Porn Channels
Around three-quarters of the British public (73%) do not want the UK to adopt Europe’s liberal policy for broadcasting pornographic satellite and cable channels, according to CIA MediaLab’s latest Sensor survey.
Women feel stronger than men about stopping European porn channels from reaching the UK, with 85% against European rules on broadcasting pornographic TV, compared to 59% of their male counterparts.
These figures coincide with Culture Secretary Chris Smith’s announcement that he would take action to stop a French porn channel broadcasting to UK homes (subscribers see State Steps In Against Satellite Porn Channel).
Anthony Jones, head of CIA MediaLab, commented: “It is clear that a majority of the UK population feels that the government rather than Europe should control what is broadcast in the UK. It seems that Chris Smith’s move to stop certain porn channels from developing further will gain popular support.”
