RA Allows Acquisition Of West Sound AM

The Radio Authority announced today that it will allow Scottish Radio to acquire West Sound AM because the move would not be expected to operate against the public interest (subscribers see Radio Authority Invites Comments On Scottish Radio Move).

The Authority said that it had taken into account a range of views expressed by third parties as well as submissions from Scottish Radio Holdings. The main area of concern was that there could be a reduction in the range of programmes available in the area, since SRH already owns Clyde 2, which broadcasts in the same area.

Arrangements are being made however to revise West Sound AM’s ‘promise of performance’ in order to safeguard local sports output and the minutage of some other programme strands.
