RA Allows Emap Radio To Split GNR Licence Into Two Magic Stations

The Radio Authority (RA) has granted Emap Radio permission to split its GNR Radio licence into two new stations under the company’s Magic brand. Emap last week replaced AM-GNR with Magic 1170 which will transmit to Teesside, South Durham and North Yorkshire, and Magic 1152 which will serve Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham.

These AM stations continue Emap Radio’s national roll-out of the Magic brand which is targeted at a 35-44 year old audience. Emap says the stations will have a younger feel than the Gold radio format.

The RA allowed Emap to create an additional station within the one licence as it deemed the move to be increasing, rather than restricting, audience choice.

Sponsorship, promotions and airtime sales for both the stations will be handled by Emap On Air.

Subscribers can access the Radio Database by selecting “Radio” from the drop-down box at the top of this page.
