Racing Channel Launches
Yesterday yet another satellite channel available to Sky viewers launched. The Racing Channel is owned by SIS, the company that supplies bookmakers with live racing pictures. Subscription only, at a cost of £19.99 per month to each subscriber, the channel will also broadcast for one hour each day on Sky’s Channel 60 for free in a bid to attract more viewers.
From November to April the channel will transmit between 11am and 4pm; from May to October it will transmit from 11am to 7pm. The channel does not as yet take advertising, but their licence does permit advertising, and according to George Irvine, the general manager of the Racing Channel, it is something they may well consider “once things have settled down a bit.”
The Racing Channel was unable to comment on how many people have taken up subscriptions, but this is expected to be 30,000 within a year.
