Radio Authority: 41 Applications For London Licences
The Radio Authority has received 41 applications for the six Greater London licences advertised today. Six licences were advertised, three FM and three FM licences. In addition to the two licences currently held by Capital FM and Capital Gold AM, there are four new frequencies. 28 of the applications are for an FM licence only, 11 for an AM licence only; Capital has applied for both. Richard Branson’s Virgin is among the bidders for an FM licence.
Licences will come into effect from October 1995, for eight years. The Radio Authority hopes to announce its decisions in the autumn.
