Radio Authority Advertises New Multiplex
![]()
The Radio Authority will invite applications for the latest digital multiplex licence to come up for grabs from Friday this week. The licence to be advertised will serve the South Hampshire area, and include coverage of the cities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester. The potential adult audience will be just over 1 million.
As before with similar licences, a set amount of capacity must be provided to accomodate the local BBC radio service, but existing analogue commercial stations have no guaranteed place on the multiplex, unless they are included in a successful applicants proposed services.
The licence is expected to be awarded in the Spring of next year, for an initial period of 12 years. The closing date for applications is 12 February 2002.
