Radio Authority Advertises Tyne & Wear Digital Licence

The Radio Authority (RA) this week advertises the local digital multiplex licence for Tyne & Wear. This is the sixth digital licences to be advertised by the RA.

Digital licences in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, South Yorkshire and Manchester have already ready been put up for tender. A joint venture between Capital Radio and EMAP, called CE Digital, has already applied to the Authority for the Manchester and Birmingham licences (see Capital/EMAP Consortium Bids For Manchester Digital Radio Licence). CE Digital will also apply for the London licence and is considering submitting applications for South Yorkshire and Glasgow.

The Tyne & Wear licence will serve a population of around 1.4 million people. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 10 August 1999.
