Radio Authority Offers Yorkshire Multiplex Licence
![]()
The Radio Authority has invited applications for a digital multiplex licence which could reach an adult population of around 4.25 million in the Yorkshire region.
Applicants have until 18 June to submit proposals for the licence, which covers most parts of the former metropolitan counties of South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Humberside and part of the county of North Yorkshire. Local multiplexes in the area have already been licensed, which means the award of this licence would further increase digital radio choice in the North East.
Unlike some licences, this one does not have reserved digital capacity for any BBC service, as the BBC local stations, Radio Sheffield and Radio Humberside, as these already have capacity reserved on local multiplexes. Applications will be considered taking into account factors such as local support, how well services would provide appeal to a variety of local tastes and the financial ability of the applicants to deliver on proposals.
The Radio Authority expects to award the licence in Autumn this year.
