Radio Authority Plans To Relax Sponsorship Regulations

The current sponsorship regulations which apply to the UK radio industry are set to be relaxed by the Radio Authority. The radio watchdog has proposed a number of revisions to the existing Advertising and Sponsorship Code and is now seeking the views of interested parties with regard to the changes.

As part of the revisions, the RA is hoping to relax the current sponsorship rules to provide more scope for promotions and commercial sponsorship deals on radio. However, sponsor mentions will be required to be scripted and receive advance copy clearance, as is currently the case for advertisements.

Views on the Authority’s proposals can be submitted via its website at www.radioauthority.org.uk, where the full revisions can also be read. The deadline for responses is Wednesday 31 May 2000.
