Radio Authority Public Interest Tests
The Radio Authority has announced the outcome of the public interest test into the proposed acquisition of Choice FM Birmingham by Chrysalis Group and of Kent and Sussex Radio Ltd by DMG Radio. The Authority’s determination in both cases is that the acquisition is not expected to operate against the public interest.
In the case of Choice FM Birmingham, the decision was conditional on any re-branding of the station being gradual and on a phased basis only, and on the proviso that it continue to make particular provisions for Afro-Caribbean listeners in Birmingham.
DMG Radio’s acquisition was subject to two conditions as well: that a separate newsroom presence is maintained at KFM and that no conditional selling of advertising between KFM and any DMGT newspaper is introduced.
