The Radio Authority received 200 complaints about programming and advertising on UK commercial radio during the first quarter of 2002, according to its latest Programming And Advertising Review published today.
Between January and April this year the authority received 67 complaints regarding programming and 133 concerning advertising and sponsorship. Eight programming complaints were upheld, compared with 19 for advertising.
Two ‘yellow card’ warnings were issued by the authority. One to Star 107.1 FM and another to Star 107.3, both as a result of concern about playlists, which put the stations outside of their respective formats.
The Radio Authority also published its Annual Report for 2001 this week, emphasising the growth of digital radio in the UK over the last twelve months. According to the report, over 200 digital radio stations now operate in the UK, with the Radio Authority approving an average of one new multiplex per month.
