Radio First Signs Fourth Premier League Joint Venture Deal With Derby County
Digital radio broadcaster Radio First has signed its fourth deal with a Premier League football club to form a joint venture music and football local radio station. The football club and the braodcaster will each own 50% of the new company, as part of a 12 year deal. The Derby County radio station will broadcast from the club’s Pride Park Stadium. A 24 hour service will include radio commentaries, phone-ins, music, match reports and score flashes from other Premier League fixtures and will be available worldwide via the Club’s website and within the local area on digital audio platforms.
Similar deals have already been signed with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Southampton football clubs, with all stations due for launch before the 2001/2002 season. The intention is to complete up to eight such deals to create the Fan Radio Network, which would then be offered as a nationwide marketing opportunity.
