Radio Licences Announced

The Radio Authority has announced three Independent Local Radio licences. These are among the 54 re-advertisements of existing ILR licences due to take place by the end of the year, with others to follow.

For the Bristol area the sole applicant was GWR West, the existing licensee. GWR was re-offered the licence, to come into effect on 29 October 1994, for a further 8 years.

The licence for the Aylesbury area was awarded to Bucks Broadcasting Ltd. The new station should come on air next year; the licence will run for 8 years. The only other applicant was Vale FM.

There were five applicants for the Bournemouth area. The Radio Authority said that although the decision was an unusually close one, the licence was awarded to the existing licencee, Two Counties Radio (2CR), to come into effect on 1 January 1995, and will run for 8 years.

The other four applicants were;

Creative Radio Co. Ltd., Poole.

First Coast Radio, Henley, Oxon.

Fun Radio Ltd., Wimborne, Dorset.

Prime Radio Ltd., Twyford, Hants.
