Radio Mix Up

The Radio Authority is inviting comments from interested parties on the public interest considerations which apply in regards to First Oxfordshire Radio Company Ltd’s proposed acquisition of Mix 96 .

First Oxfordshire Radio owns Fox FM which broadcasts in Oxford and Banbury. Mix 96, also broadcasts on FM, is currently owned by Bucks Broadcasting Ltd and broadcasts in and around Aylesbury. Fox FM and Mix 96 share a potential audience and are, therefore, deemed to be serving the same area. Under the 1996 Broadcasting Act, no one company can hold two FM licences in the same area, unless the Authority decides that the holding of those licences could not be expected to operate against the public interest.

The Authority is seeking public comment on this matter before it makes a final decision.
