RAJAR: Classic And talkSPORT Increase Reach

There was better news in terms of reach for National Commercial radio this quarter, as year on year analysis revealed gains for Classic FM, which rose 2% and talkSPORT, which, having seen losses last quarter gained a healthy 10.7% during this one.

The BBC saw a large boost to Radio 2’s reach this quarter, with year on year gains of 17.1%, which may be partly thanks to heavy promotion on BBC TV channels. Radio 3, having dropped considerably last quarter, pulled back with a 2.4% increase, while Radio 4 was up 4.2%.

BBC2 also saw gains in share. A year on year analysis showed that its percentage share of listening had risen 1.4 percentage points. However, there were losses at other BBC stations, including Radio 1, which dropped 1.1 percentage points.

It was an unspectacular quarter for National Commercial radio in terms of share, with Classic FM, Atlantic and Virgin AM all seeing small losses of less than half a percentage point each and talkSPORT gaining just 0.1 percentage point.
