Rapture Launches Tomorrow
The long-awaited teenage cable channel Rapture launches tomorrow. It will initially be shown on Telewest cable systems only, though the channel hopes more operators will take it up in the future. According to the latest ITC data Telewest is connected to just over half a million homes in areas throughout the country.
Rapture will broadcast between 10am and 8pm and have a target audience of 12-20 year olds. It aims to run a large amount of UK-originated programming rather than imports and re-runs.
The programmes are being created by independent production company Kudos Productions and will include chat shows, art slots and films made by children.
The channel will have an air-time sales team based at the ITV sales house, TSMS, which will be led by former broadcast director of Initiative Marketing, Robert Ditcham. TSMS is owned by United News & Media which also has a major shareholding in Rapture.
