Real Radio Gets On Track With GNER Sponsorship

Real Radio Yorkshire is to broadcast live from major cities along GNER train routes, as part of a sponsorship deal designed to raise awareness of the rail operator’s services.
The sponsorship will see the station’s breakfast show broadcast live from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cambridge and London for a week from 23 June. Each day the breakfast team will talk to passengers on board GNER trains about their journeys and the cities they are travelling to and from.
Commenting on the deal, Real Radio Yorkshire’s managing director, Mike Pennington, said: “This is a great opportunity for a national brand like GNER to target customers in a particular region in a unique and creative way. It’s a further example of how our Real Radio stations can help big brands directly target the consumers that other media don’t reach.”
According to the latest RAJAR data for the first three months of 2003, GMG-owned Real Radio Yorkshire recorded an initial weekly reach of 384,000. This compares to 365,000 for Real Radio Wales and 614,000 for the Scottish station.
Last week it was reported that GMG, which also owns the Jazz FM network, is planning to expand its radio interests with a bid for Capital Radio. The move follows the breakdown of the group’s negotiations to buy out its joint venture partner, BC Partners, in the Autotrader publishing business (see GMG Looks To Expand Radio Interests With Capital Bid).
