The number of viewers who watched Linford Christie beat Carl Lewis in the 100 metres at Gateshead on Friday was 12 million.
This was ITV’s biggest audience for a sporting event this year, and the largest in the eight years that ITV has been sole broadcaster of domestic track and field.
