Regional Newspaper Group Bids For Island FM

Surrey-based Tindle Newspapers has made an offer to buy the Channel Islands radio station, Island FM. John Burley, chairman of Island FM, describes the undisclosed offer as ‘substantial’ and is writing to shareholders to recommend acceptance. The offer is subject to both regulatory and shareholder approval.
Sir Ray Tindle, proprieter and chairman of Tindle Newspapers, said he is delighted that the Board of Island is recommending the sale to its shareholders. Tindle ensures that the running and staff at the radio station will be unaltered should the offer be accepted and completed.
Island FM’s latest Rajar figure (Q2 1997) gave the station an adult audience of 48,000, a weekly reach of 28,000 and a share of listening of 48%. The station is a subsidiary of Radio Investments Ltd..
