Regional Press Ad Revenue Grows

National display advertising revenue in the regional and local press has grown by 14.4% year on year to £55.5 million for the first quarter of this year, according to the Advertising Association’s latest survey. This is the highest growth the regional press industry has achieved in a decade.

It also outperforms TV (up 6.7%), national press (up 7.9%), magazines (up 6.3%) and radio (up 11.8%) in terms of national display. Only Outdoor outperformed the regional press with an increase of 23.4% to £107m.

The growth figures are echoed by Register-MEAL, which shows that January-June revenue for regional newspapers has grown by 16%. Key categories of growth include motors, with manufacturer spend up 120% to £10.1m and dealer spend up 26% to £20.5m. Mortgages expenditure grew by 26% while furniture retail rose 16% to over £35m.

Overall for Quarter 1 there was an 8.3% year on year increase in ad spend to £1.465 million.
