Regional Press Group Seeks More Accurate Audience Measurement System
The Newspaper Society has formed a working group of experts from the industry to find a more accurate and comprehensive way of measuring the total audience of regional newspaper titles. The group will reassess the systems currently on the market and, as more titles move onto the web, look at ways of fusing print and online audiences.
Members of the team have been selected to bring together expertise in research techniques, national sales, new media, and current measurement systems, ABC and JICREG.
Nicholas Rudd-Jones, group managing director of Johnston Press, said: “Circulation figures are currently perceived as the established currency while readership is the prime measurement of audience for planner-buyers. The group’s purpose is to redress this balance and to find a way to measure more fully and more accurately the total audience that regional press publishers are delivering through print and online.”
