Regional Press Snatches £1.2m Co-Op Campaign From National Press

The Newspaper Society is claiming a victory for regional press advertising after winning the advertising campaign for Co-operative Retail Services (CRS), worth over £1.2 million. The campaign was originally planned to be placed in the national press but was moved to regional papers after a presentation by NS Marketing’s Nick Jenkins.

“Nick Jenkins presented a strong case for the regional press and together with national sales operations such as Newsquest, the regional press industry was able to demonstrate its value and effectiveness for the campaign. I look forward with interest to the results,” says Adrian Pike, media planner at Motive.

Helen Bradnan, CRS marketing communications manager, said: “We came to the decision to move away from national press towards regionals thereby increasing the effectiveness of targeting and reinforcing our links with the community.”

According the Newspaper Society, regional press saw a 7.6% growth in national display ad revenue in 1988. Overall display revenue for regional press grew by 2.6% year on year between January and September 1998 according to the Advertising Association.
