Regional Radio Launches

Century Radio, covering the North East area, and based in Tyne Tees, launched at 7am this morning. Century carries a mix of speech and contemporary classic music, with well-known broadcasters such as Simon Bates and James Whale. Century is wholly owned by Border Television.

Sunday sees the launch of Galaxy 101, which covers the South West area. Output will be a mix of classic and contemporary dance music, and local and international news.

On Tuesday September 6 Heart FM launches, which will specialise in soft adult contemporary music in the west Midlands. Heart, which is owned by the Chrysalis media group, should be available to around 3m people.

The last of the large regional licences to launch is Scot FM, on September 16, covering cenral Scotland. Scot FM should reach 70% of the Scottish population with a mixture of music, news, phone-ins and conversation. It is owned by Border and Grampian Television.
