The success of the Manchester Evening News’ price-cutting operation has led other regional groups to follow suit. The Friday edition of the Manchester Evening News is now available for a third of the usual cover-price at 10p *Manchester Evening News Claims Sales Success .

The Yorkshire Post slashed its Saturday cover-price from 38p to 20p six weeks ago and so far the promotion has increased Saturday sales by 12.5%; last Saturday the paper sold 104,089 copies. Sales of the Saturday paper have risen every week since the price-cut took effect. Before the promotion Saturday sales were averaging 89,512. The price has now been increased to 30p for the next two Saturdays.

Across the water, The Belfast Telegraph has cut the Wednesday price of its North West edition from 18p to 10p. The first week of the promotion saw casual sales rise by 25%, the campaign is now in its fourth week and sales are still increasing as a result.
