Relief As No VAT On Press
The chancellor’s decision not to impose VAT on the press at yesterday’s budget has brought large sighs of relief from the industry.
The Newspaper Society’s director, Dugal Nisbet Smith, said, “We are delighted…the government has today demonstrated its support for regional and local newspapers and the invaluable service they provide in every community”.
The Newspaper Society claimed their long campaign against VAT caused the chancellor to bow to pressure, despite his specific words yesterday to the contrary.
