News of a new business decline may be exaggerated, according to the latest research from MediaTel and AAR’s newbizmoves database. Figures suggest that new business activity was up 79% year on year for the first quarter of 2001, although the value of pitches was up only 13% to just over £670m.

A total of 215 reviews were announced during the opening three months of the year, compared to 120 the year before. Creative reviews made up 66% of the total, a 53% year on year increase, while media reviews were down to 25%, compared to 32% last year. Significantly dotcoms, which represented 28% of the total last year only represented 7% this year.
