Restructure Planned At Sky As Ian West Departs
Managing director of Sky Entertainment, Ian West, yesterday quit the company ahead of a restructure which is believed will create major changes to the organisation of the satellite broadcasting group.
Observers within the industry predicted an integration of the distribution department which West headed and the programming division Sky Networks, run by Elisabeth Murdoch. It is believed that West did not approve of the planned changes and Sky issued a statement announcing that he will “leave…by mutual consent with immediate effect”.
New chief executive Tony Ball praised West for his contribution to the group and particularly his recent success in the launch of digital satellite television. “[West] oversaw the launch of Sky Digital and has ensured that it has had the fastest growth of any digital platform worldwide,” said Ball.
BSkyB was unable to reveal plans to replace West when contacted by Newsline today.
