Restructuring At HTV

HTV is restructuring its organisation following the takeover by United News & Media. In order to improve its Welsh and West of England service and in preparation for the introduction of digital services next year, HTV is to make the following changes:

  • a merging of Harvest Entertainment, HTV’s network rights and production business, with United Film and Television Productions (UFTP).
  • the creation of United Wildlife to ensure the continuation of the two existing natural history production companies, Partridge Films and Survival Anglia.
  • investment in new drama and film production in Wales.
  • an enlarged children’s department based in Bristol.
  • new regional management structures in Cardiff and Bristol.

Menna Richards and Jeremy Payne, directors of programmes at HTV Wales and HTV West respectively, are both promoted to managing directors and will report to Malcolm Wall, deputy director of United Broadcasting & Entertainment (owned by United News & Media). Mark Broughton will become managing director of United Wildlife. Dan Maddicott will become director of children’s programmes in Bristol.

A total of 57 redundancies is expected as a result of the takeover. It is hoped that up to 31 new posts will be created.
