An announcement is expected soon on the partnership of Reuters with Sky News. ITN had also been considered a potential partner for Sky News but this is believed to have failed because of disputes over editorial control. Talks between Reuters and Sky are said to be at an advanced stage. A partnership with Reuters would enable Sky to provide a European news service.
Reuters announced at the weekend that it plans to develop a television news service in the US, in a partnership with Fox Television, the US film and television group. The deal is significant because it marks an agreement between two of the world’s biggest media operations, Reuters and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation. Rupert Murdoch owns both Fox and BSkyB.
