Peter Powell, chairman of Worldpop (pictured far right, with singer Sophie Ellis-Bexter and Geoffrey Wheating, director of strategy, Reuters Media UK & Ireland) commented, “Since we launched Worldpop back in January we have sought to form alliance with the very top market leaders. We have always felt that our core audience will be the most significant area for growth for the the Internet and Reuters involvement in this area fully reflects this.”
Earlier this year another alliance with a market leader was established when Worldpop arranged to sponsor the BBC’s Top 40 (see BBC’s Top 40 Gets Commercial Sponsor). The deal announced today will see the creation of a service which will be updated twice daily, carrying pop scoops, reviews, charts, gossip and pictures.
Reuters Media has a commitment to both working with third party content providers and expanding its breadth and depth of coverage, in this case to target younger audiences, who are thought to make up a large proportion of web users.
