Revenues Rise 6% At WPP

WPP, the world’s biggest advertising group, has published its first quarter results for 1997. The strength of the pound was blamed for the fall in revenues from £390.4 million to £387 million year-on-year. Although, on a like for like basis, revenues were shown to rise by 6% and the gross margin to 7%.

Revenue growth was above the Group average in market research, where it reached 11.5%, and public relations, which recorded 6.9%

The Group is promising to continue to focus on its key objectives: improving operating profits and margins, increasing cost flexibility, reducing debt levels, adding value to clients and concentrating on high revenue growth areas.
