Review Of Cross-Media Ownership

Review Of Cross-Media Ownership

National Heritage Secretary Peter Brooke announced yesterday that he will be reviewing the rules which restrict ownership between newspapers, television companies and radio stations.

The review will look at current ownership restrictions to see whether these rules strike a satisfactory balance. Peter Brooke explained that the convergence of technologies, and developments within the international media market had made the review necessary.

Peter Brooke said that the review committee will be “looking at the need for diversity and choice for audiences, whilst encouraging United Kingdom interests to play an active part in national and international markets.”

All written submissions on these issues should arrive by 25 February.
