RI:SE Launch Date Revealed

RI:SE Launch Date Revealed

Channel 4 has announced that its new weekday morning breakfast programme, RI:SE, will launch at 6.55am on 29 April. Advertising has already begun for the show, with the teaser line “Are you awake?”

The search for a successor to the ailing Big Breakfast began last summer, with the contract being eventually awarded to Sky and Princess Productions, who will produce RI:SE in partnership (see BSkyB To Serve Up Next Big Breakfast).

Thanks to the Sky connection, three of the seven-strong presentation team for the launch come from the satellite broadcaster’s stables. Anchor Mark Durden-Smith comes from Sky Sports, where among other things he has fronted Rugby Union coverage since 1997. Sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher has presented for both Sky Sports and recently Sky One and News presenter Chris Rogers comes from Sky News.

The rest of the presenting team includes Edith Bowman of Capital Radio and MTV and Liz Bonnin from RTE, covering Entertainment and 4 Music’s Colin Murray and LDN Drivetime presenter Henry Bonsu in Features.

The show will run from 6.55am to 9am, and cover a mix of entertainment, news and sport. It is thought that it may be more conventional than its predecessor, the Big Breakfast, which ended its run of almost a decade at the end of last month.
