Roku is set to launch two of its streaming players – Roku LT and Roku 2 XS – in the UK at the end of January.

The small set-top boxes are already available for pre-order on Amazon, starting at just £49.99. Roku claims that its players make streaming simple – with a quick set-up, built-in wireless, which works with virtually any TV.

The Roku LT, which is one of the lowest-cost options for streaming video and music directly to a TV (via WiFi), is priced at just £49.99, while the Roku 2 XS, which has additional features such as Angry Birds and a USB port costs £99.99. Both boxes connect to a standard-definition or a HD TV via RCA or HDMI.

Roku boasts 40 channels of content in the UK and Ireland, including on-demand films and programming from Netflix and Crackle, live sports from MLB.TV as well as photos and videos from Facebook and Flickr.

Roku’s UK website claims that the product is “the original, best-selling streaming player from the US. Roku makes it easy for you to enjoy great films and TV shows, live sport, music, games and more whenever you want, instantly on your TV”.
