RTL Confirms Eyre’s Departure, Announces Promotions In His Wake
RTL has confirmed that its director of strategy and content, Richard Eyre, will be leaving the company at the end of this month. Rumours about Eyre’s decision to quit the company just over a year after he joined surfaced yesterday (see Former ITV Chief Executive Richard Eyre Quits RTL).
RTL has announced that Tony Cohen, currently chief executive, worldwide production for Pearson Television, will become chief executive officer for RTL group production businesses, while Bruno Chauvat, managing director of RTL Group, will assume responsibility for the strategy department. Cohen will also join the RTL Group management board.
It was thought that Eyre’s reason for quitting was frustration at his change of responsibilities following the Pearson merger last year. In a statement, he appeared to go some way towards confirming this, saying that the “business logic” behind the merger was “compelling” and that its completion and positioning for growth was one of his “primary tasks”. “Now that is complete I have chosen to take the opportunity to think radically about my next steps,” he concluded.
