Rule On ITV Takeovers

Following a ministerial meeting this week, it looks likely that there will be a relaxation of the rules preventing the nine largest ITV companies taking each other over.

Proposals would allow an ITV company to have a second licence; an extension of the moratorium seems unlikely as legislation would be necessary.

If compromise proposals are accepted by the prime minister then they would still have to be passed by both houses of parliament.
