Samsung is set to become the world’s leading smartphone supplier this quarter, taking Nokia’s 15-year crown, according to investment bank Nomura.

Reuters also reports that Apple will claim the number two spot, while HTC is expected to match Nokia in 2012.

However, Nokia remains the world’s largest mobile handset manufacturer – mainly due to its wider distribution network in emerging countries.

Other research firms have also predicted a falling share for Nokia in the smartphone arena, however, the company hopes its move from the Symbian operating system to Windows Phone will help boost sales.
